What are the advantages of a template?
A common web template will bring much-needed consistency and continuity to the University’s web presence by creating a family of school websites that look and function in a similar manner. In essence, all of the schools will look like they are part of the same university.
Equally important, templates are a substantially more cost-effective solution for redesigning our websites. Quality web design can be extremely expensive and time consuming. By centralizing the process, the University is able to offer a high-quality design to all of the schools for a fraction of the cost.
What parts of the design can be tailored?
The template is designed to maintain a consistent look and feel across the University’s externally facing websites. As such, the designs are not intended to be modified. However, the templates were built with flexibility so that each website wouldn’t look exactly the same.
Who is required to use the template?
To be effective, the template designs will be applied to all of the University’s undergraduate, graduate and professional schools. This initiative, which has the full backing of President Bacow, is an important element in the University’s ongoing strategic communications planning.
Can I use my own photography?
Effective design requires the use of quality, professional photography. As a result, we strongly encourage you to work closely with University Photography to plan, shoot and edit images for use with the templates. While you are welcome to utilize existing photos, the implementation of the templates offers an excellent opportunity to update and expand your photo collections.
