Description of service
"Go" is a script that provides easy addressing of Tufts web sites. It allows webmasters to use a short name or acronym to address sites, using the format: go.tufts.edu/name. The script is ideal for webmasters who want a concise way to market and address their sites, but who don't necessarily need a virtual domain. It's also useful for those whose virtual domain name requests were not approved. Requirements for "Go" names are far less restrictive than those for virtual domains. Usage requires only a short setup process with Web Communications.
Availability of the service
Web Communications manages the "Go" script and works with University Systems Group to maintain the server where the script resides. We expect that the scripting service will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, as with any service, it may be subject to infrequent disruptions due to unforeseen circumstances or maintenance requirements. Webmasters should plan accordingly.
Notification
In the event of a known, unplanned, service disruption occurring during business hours and lasting more than 15 minutes, Web Communications will post a notice to the webmasters mailing list as well as to the Infoboard system. The notice will provide the details of the disruption and its estimated duration, if available. A second notice will be sent out once the service resumes.
Scheduled service disruptions will be communicated no fewer than 2 business days prior to the work. All communication regarding maintenance or planned disruptions will occur via email to the webmasters mailing list and will also be posted on the Infoboard.
Instructions
After reading the above service agreement, follow these instructions for setting up your "Go" name. Web Communications assumes you have read and understand this service agreement before using the "Go" script.
